2016 Away-Days, hosted by the UdK TypoLabor

BTS Away-Days 2016,
hosted by the UdK TypoLabor

On the 29th and 30th of July 2016, the Berlin University of the Arts’ UdK TypoLabor will host the first Berlin Type School Away-Days. This is a free typography & type design festival for UdK design students – and professional designers, too. There is no admission fee, and no corporate sponsors. Even though this is a free event, we’d like to ask that everyone who is planning attend register at Eventbrite (please claim a ticket for Friday and Saturday if you’ll be coming both days). This will help us with the number of chairs we need, and other logistics.

Warm-up on Thursday, 28 July 2016
At 19:00, Viktoriya Grabowska from Poznań/Poland will present her work at this month’s Berlin Typostammtisch.
The talk will be in Englisch and takes place at Café BilderBuch in Akazienstraße 28, 10823 Berlin.

Exhibitions
On Friday and Saturday, we will host two typographic exhibitions from recent graduates of the Academy Of Arts, Architecture And Design in Prague, Studio Of Type Design and Typography. These will be in the same space as the festival itself – inside the UdK Medienhaus. The first exhibition, from Andrea Vacovská, is entitled Movie Titles Typography: Opening Credits in Czechoslovak movies 1945—1993. The second is Petra Dočekalová’s Master’s thesis, a revival of traditional Czech sign painting styles. These exhibitions will be accompanied by student work from the UdK TypoLabor.
